Why is backflow testing required?

The United States Department of Environmental Protection, adopted the Safe Drinking Water Act in 1974 (revised it in 1986 and 1996) Public Law 99-339 to prevent the pollution or contamination of water supplies.

Why does the Backflow Assembly need to be tested annually?

The Georgia Rules for Safe Drinking Water Chapter 391-3-5-.13 pass the responsiblity of enforcing cross-connection control regulations to local water providers.  These laws require local municipalities to maintain annual inspections of backflow assemblies to prevent any contamination to the public water supply.

Who notifies my city/county that my backflow device has been tested?
